Barbara & Jed Riley's Garden

Jed and Barbara Riley Open Sunday was open on the 16th July 2017 in Gedling, Nottingham.

Our suburban garden features a little “apple avenue”, a group of three Betula jacquemontii, a medlar tree and plenty of hardy plants. There are plants on display in pots, notably acers, auriculas, bonsai trees, hostas and sempervivums. Otherwise, the emphasis is firmly on traditional hardy plants which are usually at their peak in mid-July.

We are grateful to the Hardy Plant Society for the excuse to share our garden with others as we have finally got round to some jobs we had been meaning to do for years. Ask us about the new crescent bed (so new it is not pictured!).

Admission £3 (accompanied children free) with proceeds to the Hardy Plant Society and Reach UK’s “Flower Pod” project. Refreshments and plants for sale.

The small front garden is a largely flower-free zone planted as “a green Thought in a green Shade”. Also visit the lovely garden of near neighbour, Kath Robins, so do allow some extra time for that!
